River Trail Elementary School Improvement Council 

Agenda for December 15, 2025

Members:

1. Welcome 
   1. SIC Members present:  Katrinia Wilkerson, Lexi Willets
2. School Update from Admin
   1. Angel Tree - RTES was able to gather holiday items for 4 families and distribute them including household items, toys, and clothing.
   2. PLC Model School Application - RTES named a Promising Practices School which recognizes us for raising student achievement by making a visible, positive impact on student learning.  
   3. Caroling - staff will be caroling in our local neighborhoods on Thursday to spread some holiday cheer. The bus will be leaving the school at 4:30. Route information will be shared with parents 
3. Presentation: Jocelyn Young, Executive Director of Elementary Education 
   1. Presentation provided an overview of how the district curriculum department aligns and supports the vision, mission, and needs of RTES.
   2. 4K program opening and will run alongside 4K lab classes
   3. Reviewed curriculum department website
   4. Resource selection - state send districts options that are available for adoption. The content area coordinator procures samples of the instructional materials. A committee is developed to review the materials based on standards, rigor, and diversity.

Agenda for November 10, 2025

Members:

1. Welcome 
   1. SIC Members present: Lexi Willets, Shannon Brown, Sam Rigby, Destiny Jenkins, Shannon Greene
2. School Update from Admin
   1. Literacy Night - We hosted “A Glowing Night of Literacy” where families were invited to celebrate reading, writing, and phonics. Families were able to participate in read alouds, walk through the glowing art show, provide glows to all students on their writing, play phonics games, and write in the glow lounge. The event was well attended and the response was great. 
   2. Annual Veteran’s Day - takes place tomorrow and will feature breakfast for all veterans, a performance by the Otter Ensemble, speech by students, presentation of colors by the Catawba Ridge High School ROTC, and gifts for the veterans.  
   3. School Report Card - RTES received a score of “excellent” on the state school report card with a score of 73 out of 100. We were rated excellent in academic achievement,  preparing students for success, and student progress with a rated good in school climate. 
3. Beautification
   1. Lowe’s donating items
      1. We are awaiting approval from district maintenance and landscaping in order for us to move forward with this project. The district only pays 

to replace pine needles therefore the school would have to cover the cost of mulch upkeep yearly.

4. Increased Community Involvement
   1. Collaborate with PTO to increase community involvement
      1. Community Partner spotlight is being added to the parent S’more so that it provides the community partner with more visibility with our River Trail family.

Agenda for October 13, 2025

Members:

1. Welcome 
   1. SIC Members present: Shannon Brown, Katrinia Wilkerson, Destiny Jenkins
2. School Update from Admin
   1. Behavior Standards and assemblies
      1. Ms. Wilkerson reviewed the behavior standards process and updated the committee on our behavior assemblies that occurred today. Students and classes were acknowledged for meeting and exceeding expectations in our 3 big areas: hallways, cafeteria, and playground. They also served as a reminder of the expectations as we move into the next quarter. 
      2. PLC model school application has recently been completed and will be submitted soon. This application will allow RTES to serve as a model school to help guide other schools through the PLC process. It also acknowledges the hard work that our teachers and staff put in daily to grow our students. Student growth is a huge part of the application and will play a factor in the selection process. 
      3. First quarter was a success. Teachers are collaborating to ensure that 100% of our students master all essential standards. Teachers are tracking these standards and holding reteach and extension groups, as needed. 

3. Beautification
   1. The committee discussed areas around the school that needed a facelift. It was determined that we would focus on the front of the building and then venture to the reminder of the campus throughout the year. We discussed utilizing community members. Mulch will be added to the flowerbeds, bulbs planted, and large seasonal planters will be placed outside the main doors. 
      1. Community - Golf Course Lawn Michael and Megan Boucher, Ponce, All Pro Dads 
   2. Potential Beautification Day will be determined once estimates and community input have been received.

Agenda for September 8, 2025

Members:

1. Welcome and introduce all SIC members (New & Returning)
   1. SIC members present: Kristen Rodriguez, Destiny Jenkins, Katrinia Wilkerson, Lexi Willets, Shannon Brown
   2. Introductions were made of present members. 
2. What is an SIC?
   1. SIC Handbook
      1. Ms. Wilkerson reviewed the purpose of SC and school level SICs and the state laws that created the advisory committee. The state SIC Handbook was provided electronically to all members along with the minutes from the meeting. 
   2. RTES By-Laws
      1. RTES by-laws were reviewed and provided to the committee electronically.
3. Nominate SIC officers for the current year
   1. Nominations for chair and secretary positions were both accepted and determined as follows:
      1. Chair: Destiny Jenkins
      2. Secretary: Alexandria Willets
4. Review SIC Goals from 2024-2025
   1. School Performance Update

1. Although scores are still embargoed, we discussed that RTES continues to excel and grow academically especially in the area of reading. Math scores were excellent as well. Discussed possible potential for closing the gap between reading and math SC Ready scores. Suggestions included math night to provide parents with help to gain a greater understanding of math expectations and procedures, continued use of IXL morning groups, and fact fluency practice. Academic growth will continue to be a focus and a part of the school improvement plan.

2. Clubs and Service Projects 
   1. Clubs and service projects went well last year. They will both continue this year. Students were able to select their clubs as a free, school-based enrichment on early release days. Service projects were aimed at increasing empathy and impacting the world. Students visited Westminster Towers to sing to the residents, raised money for Isiah House in support of foster care supplies, collected needed items for the animals at the Humane Society, and donated clothing items to the Fort Mill Care Center.
3. Development of 2025-2026 goals
   1. Day of Service - to continue increasing empathy and development of well-rounded students
